چکیده

In this study, tablets coming from different police seizures (in Switzerland) were analysed by ICP/MS and ICP/AES. Two methods of preparation were carried out in order to compare the influence of sample preparation. 25 elements were screened by ICP/AES whereas most of the periodic table could be screened by ICP/MS. Approximative detection limits were determined for most of the elements showing, as expected, a greater sensitivity for ICP/MS. The inter-variability was studied by analysing 20 tablets coming from the same batch and another 20 tablets coming from another batch. The reproducibility of each detection technique was also evaluated. Within day, and depending of the element, the standard deviation can vary between 1 and 10%. The most frequent elements found were Ca, Mg, Na, K, Al, Si and Fe. Full results are presented and discussed.

Semiquantitative Screening of Pharmaceutical Antiviral Drugs using the Agilent 7500ce ICP-MS in Helium Collision Mode

Rapid semiquantitative elemental screening of pharmaceutical samples is described using the Agilent 7500ce ICP-MS with helium as collision gas. Polyatomic interferences are eliminated in the He pressurized cell, enabling rapid elemental profiling of pharmaceutical tablets for screening purposes. Elements which normally suffer from polyatomic interferences have been included in the semiquantitat...

Impact of Pharmaceutical Impurities in Ecstasy Tablets: Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry Study

In this study, a simple and reliable method by gas chromatograph–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) was developed for the fast and regular identification of 3, 4-MDMA impurities in ecstasy tablets. In so doing, 8 samples of impurities were extracted by diethyl ether under alkaline condition and then analyzed by GC–MS. The results revealed high MDMA levels ranging from 37.6% to 57.7%. The GC-MS method sh...

Analysis of Acid Rock Drainage (ARD) with Micro Plasma Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (MP AES) – Comparison with ICP-MS

Analysis of dissolved metals in acid rock drainage (ARD) with an Agilent 4100 MP AES instrument that combines a nitrogen micro plasma with atomic emission detection (MP AES) was compared with an ICP-MS. Sample preparation consisted only of filtration, acidification (HNO3 1%) and addition of internal standard elements after appropriate dilution. In these complex matrices the systems gave identic...

Profiling of Ecstasy Tablets Seized in Iran

In this study 50 samples of ecstasy tablets seized in Iran during the period of 2007 through 2008 were examined and their physical characteristics (appearance, marking, scored/not scored, color, weight, diameter, thickness) were determined. In order to determine the chemical characteristics of these tablets, color tests (Marquis test, Simon’s test, Chen’s test and Gallic acid test), Thin Layer ...
